We here at Just Vertical have some very exciting news.

We’ve launched a podcast 🎉🎉🎉!

Our podcast - In the Weeds - is dedicated to discussing everything to do with food sustainability, urban agriculture, indoor growing, food insecurity, resource consumption, and anything else we think is exciting, important, or interesting related to the greater world of sustainability.

Although we have a few episodes dedicated to discussing hydroponics and indoor gardening, we really wanted this podcast to be an opportunity to discuss a wide variety of the social, cultural, and environmental aspects of both food sustainability, and sustainability more generally. This is why our first season will feature conversations with researchers, entrepreneurs, non-profit directors, and community leaders from across North America. These folks are all tireless in making urban food systems more resilient. You’ll be able to learn about topics including - but not limited to - seed saving, community fridges and urban beekeeping from experts at the forefront of these fields. 

So how do you get your hands (and your ears) on our podcast? 

Our first episode aired on January 20th on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify and Stitcher. A new episode will be available every two weeks. This podcast will transform your daily commute, downtime, and drab household chores into an educational journey focused on learning more about indoor gardening, urban agriculture, and more. All you need to do is listen and learn.  

We started planning this podcast back in August 2021 and recorded conversations throughout the fall. Every guest’s story and perspective on is different, but the process of having these discussions reaffirmed for us the importance that food plays in our health, our environmental stewardship, and our relationships with each other. 

We hope they do the same for you.

Aside from learning mundane things like how to use a usb microphone and splice audio clips, we learned far more interesting facts like;

• The ‘internet of things (IoT)’ might make it easier to grow vegetables on condo rooftops
• Food pantries don’t just provide meals to those who are in a crunch, but can also be a hub of social activity, particularly for senior citizens
• You really can eat every part of a cow, and a few restaurants in Kitchener, Ontario do it seamlessly

The way we access food is changing, and we at Just Vertical care deeply about this evolution.
